Not gross anymore!!

Remember my son hurt his pinky finger on 5/26/11, and his nail popped out of his nail bed -just the back end, you have to see the picture to understand. (Look at the link below for the story and pictures). Well, this is my son’s finger all healed up. I am very happy with the results. I must say again that the emergency room tech did a fabulous job. The new nail came in almost perfectly. There is one little grove in his nail, which I didn’t even see, my son had to point it out. Don't remember what it looked like or what happened? Not as gross, but still gross!

Well his finger is healing up. His injury happened just over two months ago (5/26/11). I've attached a picture of what it now looks like. The picture was taken two days ago. The new nail is pushing out the old nail. He still likes to gross me out with it but it is healing nicely. The new nail/nailbed is pink and healthy. The old nail is working its way out.

Don't remember what it looked like or what happened? Click here to see: Picture of injury. Looks like what the doctor said was true. The technician did a really good job in the emergency room when he came in with the injury.

Homemade Dog Food

We were watching a Chopped rerun, episode “Crunch Time” where the winner of that battle was Madison Cowan. He has a really cook accent, looked him up on the internet and found he had a webpage. I was curious and was looking around it. In the blog portion of it he was talking about making his pup some food.

We just happened to be low on dog food. I had all the ingredients and decided to give it a try. Here is the recipe.

Pour 2 1/2 cups of oats into 3 1/2 cups of boiling water, stir to thicken and remove from the heat. Sprinkle on 2 tsp of powdered chicken stock, crack in an egg; add 1 chopped apple and a handful of shredded cheese. Stir and allow to cool for 5 minutes. This makes an exceptionally healthy, satisfying and cost effective substitute until his regular kibble comes in.

We made it and our dog loved it. There were some things I will do differently; I will chop the apple up in to much smaller pieces. When it got down to the end my dog would “spit” out some of the apple when the oats were getting low. I think next time I am also going to try it with beef stock. I didn’t have any otherwise I would have done that this time, my dog is sensitive to chicken. Another alternative will be to make this with rice instead of oats.

So, what do you think?

Pucker up...Tart

If you love tart you'll love Hubert's Lemonade- Raspberry Lemonade! It's a flavor explosion in your mouth.

This Hubert's Lemonade flavor is much more sour than the others we've had. Now, I'm not someone that prefers sour or tart so Raspberry Lemonade wasn't my favorite. But here's what is good: Lots and lots of flavor! You can taste the freshness. You can taste the raspberry and lemons. It doesn't taste sugary or artificial. It tastes like tart fruit.

So to recap, I didn't love the Raspberry Lemonade as much as I've love the other flavors. But I'm still a huge Hubert's Lemonade fan! I still haven't tasted all of Hubert's Lemonade’s flavors. But I can't wait to. I'll check in later with a new flavor, and a new review.

Side note, had to run a errand to Best Buys this weekend. As I walked out the store, there was a family of three (Mom, Dad, and son about 10). They were standing outside the store talking. Something caught my eye... the Dad was carrying a bottle; it was a Hubert's Lemonade bottle. It's distinct shape, yes, I knew immediate what it was. The father and son were drinking Hubert's Lemonade. The mom was drinking something else. Just thought it very interesting that I saw them with the smiling lemonade bottle!

It's still gross...

Update on my son’s finger… from when he crushed it.
(Click here to read and see what originally happend.)

He has had two appointments with the specialist. The first one was about 10days after the incident. They took another X-ray, again, everything looked good. The doctor said that the technician in the ER did a really good job at cleaning it out and stitching the nail back in. (

She said ALMOST ALWAYS with the type of injury he had where the nail pops out from the cuticle end there are broken bones. She said he is very lucky!! She again said that the nail will fall out. She also said the new nail might grow back in with some ridges on it.

She wanted to leave the stitches in for another week. He had the second appointment his past Monday where they took out the stitches. The doctor said everything looks good. She said to keep an eye out for infection. The nail/nail-bed area is now getting black. It still looks gross.

I will try and post a picture so you can see the progress.

I like me some Buckwheat Pancakes!!

I like to eat Buckwheat Pancakes. I like them best off the griddles with some butter, no syrup. My favorite ones to make where the Aunt Jemima brand of Buckwheat pancakes. They have sadly discontinued making it. I actually w rote to them a while back inquiring about it and they did say they discontinued them. Bummer! It was something I remember eating as a kid, and enjoying with my Dad. I’ve tried other mixes but have not enjoyed them.

I did find online a recipe given out by someone at Aunt Jemima. I have tried it and must say it is pretty darn close to the original. It calls for dark buckwheat flour but I could not find it, so I got the regular kind. So, go ahead, get out the mixing bowl, turn on the griddle and enjoy some Buckwheat Pancakes!! Let me know what you think of them!! I thought… YUM!

Make buckwheat pancakes by using Aunt Jemima Original pancake mix and buckwheat flour. The recipe is listed below for you:

Ingredients:
3/4 cup (175 ml) Aunt Jemima Original pancake mix
1/3 cup (75 ml) buckwheat flour (purchase dark flour)
1/2 tsp (2 ml) baking powder
Directions:
Stir dry ingredients together and add milk and egg as per package instructions.

No, the otter one...

Who will win??

This video of a boy racing an otter is so cute!

It tastes like America

Review for Hubert's Lemonade
Original Lemonade Flavor
by My Husband

Hubert's Lemonade Original is a hit! Close your eyes, take a sip and be transported back to the corner lemonade stand when you were a kid. Well, maybe if lived in Mayberry. I grew up in Los Angeles, but this is what I imagine the neighborhood lemonade stand's cool refreshing drink would have tasted like. To put it plainly, Hubert's Lemonade tastes like... America.

Hubert's Lemonade is unlike any other "mass produced" lemonade I've tasted. It is tart and lacks the sugary sweetness that every other drink maker relies on to peddle their goods. The freshness is unequalled and if I didn't pour it from the bottle myself I would have sworn that my wife spend the morning squeezing countless lemons just for me.

As a matter of fact, this is an easy way for a wife or husband to impress their spouse. Come to think of it, this could be a commercial for Hubert's Lemonade. Picture the husband out mowing the lawn in the scorching summer heat while the wife relaxes on the couch. As the husband puts away the lawn mower the wife jumps up and takes out several bottles of Hubert's Lemonade and pours them into a glass picture filled with ice and lemon slices. The husband walks in drenched in sweat as the wife pours him a tall glass of refreshing lemonade. The husband smiles in approval, takes a drink and says, "I'm a lucky man." The wife smiles proudly and says to herself, "thanks Hubert's Lemonade."

Hubert's Lemonade... Duh, Winning!

Now, that is just gross!

What a bloody mess!!! So, my son was riding his bike yesterday when the chain broke. It flipped him over the handle-bars. He was pretty scraped up (all over) but he must have landed on his hand because his pinky finger was smashed. He called me and was talking a mile a minute. All I heard was bike, crash and hospital. The neighbor took him in and washed him up. I quickly made my way to him. I took him to the emergency room. We got in pretty quick. They got really busy after we were already in. They took an X-ray. Results were in, no breaks or fractures! Thank goodness!! His finger is swollen and the fingernail was bent back and out of it's base. The part of the nail that goes under the cuticle was popping out. So gross! I've never seen a nail do that. It's hard to figure out how that even popped out. The doctor said they are going to have to numb his finger, irrigate it, and then pull the nail off. They did that, and then they cleaned his finger, the nail-bed and the nail. And then they put the nail back in...and then... STITCHED it back into place. They said that he will lose the nail but this will help to save his nail-bed, cuticle area and guide the new nail into place. His finger is wrapped and in a splint.

Today I've been on the phone with insurance, and primary doctor to make an appointment with a hand specialist. So, we are playing phone tag. Watching them fix him up was gross, I had to look away, especially when they were pulling the nail off. Ewww!

I know you all are not getting the whole effect, so that is why I am including the pictures!!! Hahahaha!! Enjoy! ;)Bloody Mess, injury about an hour after it happened.

See how the base of the nail that was supposed to be under his cuticle/skin area popped out.

Here is his finger nail removed and "cleaned" up, with neosporin, they tucked the length of the nail back under the cuticle. There are three stitches in there to hold his nail in place, one on each side and one at the top. His poor little finger is sprained and swollen too.

Your next Country Star is...

I mean, your next American Idol is....So, last night was the final performance on American Idol. The two battling it out for the title are Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. It is the youngest final two the show has ever had. There was some drama yesterday on whether of not Lauren was going to be able to perform. It seems that Lauren was having trouble with her voice. She couldn't even finish her final practice session. Word is that Haley Reinhart was going to be brought back in the competition, if Lauren was unable to perform. But, the doctor did his stuff, and she was able to sing.
Who are you voting for, who is the NEXT American Idol?!

What's Awesome? Hubert's Lemonade. That's What's Awesome!

So, when I got home yesterday there was a package for me from Hubert's Lemonade! What's Hubert's Lemonade? Only the best, most tastiest, most awesome drinks on the Planet! Now sure, you can take my word for it, but wouldn't it be so much better to find out for yourself. I think yes. Definitely yes.

So, Hubert's sent me a package with samples of all of their tasty drinks. I wasn't expecting it but I'm so glad they did. I am a fan for life! Yeah, Hubert's is an awesome company, but being awesome doesn't automatically make your drinks yummy. What makes your drinks yummy is the very best ingredients and flavors! Yup, that's what makes Hubert's Lemonade yummy. Only the Best will Do and only the best goes into their drinks, and it shows. And... if your one of those weird people that doesn't like scrumptious, refreshing drinks... the bottles are just cute enough to put your water in. Just do me a favor, don't just pour it out... give the Hubert's Lemonade to someone you love. Share the awesomeness.

Thank you Hubert's Lemonade, for making my week, and introducing me and my family to the bestest drinks ever! Hubert's Lemonade Rocks!

Lose It!

So, for a few weeks now I have been using Lose It. I wanted to make healthier choices in what I am eating. I have also been trying to make changes in my life to be more active and enjoy the "outside" world more. I feel that these changes will help my asthma, my weight, and my overall health. I have already lost 4 pounds, not too bad! I've actually have lost like 6 pounds in the last seven weeks. Lose It! (.com) is a free program. And "yes" there is an App for that. You log your food and track your calories. You can also track your sugar, fiber, fat, sodium, etc. You also log in your exercises. I think the food portion of it is pretty neat. It already has a database of some foods. You can search by food, supermarket, restaurant or even create your own, if you can't find it. You also have the option to submit suggestions to Lost It to add foods or restaurants. It's also a social place, you can add friends, or go into the message forums.

Log in your food
and
Log in your exercise

You put your goal in and then put in how much you want to lose (maintain, or gain) a week. It will tell you what your calorie count should be for the day. It tells you when you should hit your goal. It also adjusts your calorie or end date depending on how you are doing as the days and weeks go on, and if you are losing or maintaining.

My husband starting using it a week after I did. I was a bit surprise that he did. He is very stubborn that way. I've been trying to encourage him to eat healthy and exercise. So, I am glad he is making steps to lose the extra weight he put on the past couple of years.

One of my good friends is also using it. She was actually already keeping a log, but she was doing it all by hand. She works out a lot and eats really healthy. She is a vegetarian. She has been one for since she was a teen. She has been trying to get more protein in her diet. She is trying to build more muscles.

My son is also on it. He doesn't really keep it up. He doesn't need to use it to lose weight or anything. I just want him to be more mindful of what he is eating and how many calories he is taking in. He is 16 and has a (very) high metabolism. He has HLS, Hollow Leg Syndrome. (ha!) I told him, if you develop better eating habits now, then it won't be so hard later when you hit your mid-twenties and your metabolism starts to change.

It's been pretty easy to use. So, we will see how it goes....!!

It's happiness in a bottle!

I have been trying to drink a lot more water. I usually have a plastic bottle of water on my desk and I refill it. I wanted to use something that was glass. A few days ago, I was in the market and I saw this glass bottle of Hubert's Lemonade. I had to get it. It was just too cute. I even like the font they have and the truck w/lemons picture on the back. The truck is actually the UPC bar code. I let my son drink the lemonade and I am using the bottle for my water. I even like the cap. It has a nice message for you.

They have some other flavors. I will have to try them sometime.

Now he is Licensed too!

My son finally got his licensed yesterday. He took his driving test yesterday and passed. He had been asking to take his driving test for a couple of months now. Dad finally scheduled it that for him. Of course yesterday he wanted to go out by himself. He went out with a family friend who took him out to dinner. He was excited because he drove to her house by himself and then he drove her BMW to the restaurant.
Today we spent the day together as a family and with that same good friend. Tonight he went to go visit his girlfriend. When you get your license here and you are under the age of 18, for the first year you have some restrictions. He can not drive with any other kids in the car. He also can not drive between 11pm and 5am.
My little boy is growing up.

Numbers...

What's in a number. Do they mean anything to you? I have certain numbers that popped up in my life that I thought were, well, maybe they meant something. If you take the numbers 1 through 8, most of those numbers are something special, like an anniversary or a birthday. Even the way the numbers happened to be "used" was interesting. For example, 4/5 then going out, 3/6, etc. There are three significant events in our life on 4/5, 3/6, and 1/8. The only two numbers not used are 2/7. (Which happens to be today). For the last 16 years I thought there also had to be something significate to the numbers 2/7.... something special. Well, up to a while ago, I was waiting to see what it was. I did find out something about about those numbers. All the other events were happy ones, but this one just reminds me of bad events that happened. I guess I have to rethink my theory. But, who knows.....just throwing this out there!

Jammies

So I spent the last four days in my jammies in bed or on the couch sick. I told my husband I jinxed myself. On Friday, I told my boss that I was going to take two days off in the next few weeks because I did not want to max out on my PTO. Well , I ended up taking two days off but it was because I was sick. Grrrr! Don't you hate it when you have to use sick days (or PTO) for actual sick days?! I slept in until 2:00pm on three of those four days. I could probably have slept in yesterday until two but when I called my boss to let her know I wouldn't be coming in (again), I stayed up. My sleep shedule is a bit messed up from being sick. I will say though I think I am really glad I had my nose surgery (fix septum/polyp removal). I don't think I was a stuffy or nasally congested as I usually get when I get sick. I do have some chest congestion I have to work out. (Yuck!) I am feeling much better. I am at work and it was nice to not be in the house. The weather has been nice. It has been really windy, like SUPER windy. 65-75mile winds but with those winds comes clear beautiful skies! It makes for a nice drive into work.

Train Wreck...

So tonight starts the show "You're Cut Off" Season 2. I've heard a lot about one of the girls, Jenn. She worked on the Britney Spears Circus Tour with my husband. I've heard stories about the bus air conditioner, the taxi rides, the bus toilet, her watching the show instead of working, etc. She was the "Lollipop Girl" -- she had to walk around with a Britney Spears Lollipop and then direct people where to buy it. It will be interesting to watch this show. I did not watch last season but will watch this one because I heard the show is like a Train Wreck. Interested to watch this girl my husband knew while on Tour.
>>>>>So, guess she "celebrated" the premiere of the show just a bit too much! Not only was she on "You're Cut Off" but she was on "TMZ"!!

It's a new day, a new year....

The start of a New Year! We've had a nice start to the year. Spent some nice quality time with my boys. The next big thing is Saturday! My son's 16th birthday! I know I say it all the time, but where does the time go? My sweet lil baby is growing into a fine young man. He does need to refocus on his education but overall I am very happy with the young man he is turning out to be. This is going to be a good year for the three of us!!
