Juicing...

So, for a while I have been saying I will let you know how I have been recycling my Hubert’s Lemonade glass bottles. Well, here is a picture of the Limeade bottle. I think this has the “best face” for my green juices. I have been juicing off and on since September. It is all “part of my plan” to be a healthier me. It is something I have been wanted to do for a while, and now I am making it happen.

I have a juicer that I have had for about four years (or so). I used to only bring it out in the summer and then only juice fruit. Now I am trying to incorporate more vegetables into my diet. What also helped was that my husband heard Joe Cross speak on the radio. He was promoting his film “Fat, Sick and nearly Dead” We signed up for a free month on NetFlix to be able to watch it. It is really inspiring.

Mind you, we did not juice all the time like Joe Cross did. I wasn’t able to do that. I have been having a “smoothie” for breakfast and my green juice for lunch and a “sensible” dinner. I have made a change in my health and in my weight. I had put on some extra weight that last few years. I had some personal stuff going on and wasn’t eating the way I should have. I also have been making sure that I am exercising more. I have dropped some of the weight. I am working on getting it all off. That WILL BE what I do this year! I try not to beat myself up if I make a mistake or have a bad day. I recognize what I have done and I move forward. The "movement" is called Reboot and you can click here to see what programs they have and recipes. I didn't follow a particular programs, just trying to juice breakfast and lunch and eat a sensible dinner. If I snack, I try to make it "raw" fruits and vegetables. Some of the juices are really good, some not so bad, and some take a bit to get used to, those I tend to drink faster. I will post some recipes and picture in the future.

So, when I make my juice, I need a GLASS container to take it to work. I found my Hubert’s Lemonade Bottles are the best!! I can drink my all natural Hubert’s Lemonade, or Limeade and then recycle the bottles to use for my juicing! Thanks Hubert’s Lemonade for the great glass container!! Ha! Love it!

Happiness in a CAN?

So, last week my husband sent me a picture to my phone, it was of Hubert’s Lemonade.

He was in the mini-mart store at a gas station and this is what he found. Now, I love my Hubert’s Lemonade.

(Limeade is my favorite – and I can’t wait to try the Cherry Limeade!)

As I was saying, I love my Hubert’s Lemonade but I really like the glass bottle. It just seems more classic, more homey, and more yummy! Plus, I have been re-using my glass bottles! That's will be on another post.

Homemade Butter...

I made Homemade Butter on Saturday. Why? ....because I wanted to try it! It was heavy cream, a dash of salt (optional) and a jar. It came out pretty good. We tried it on some toast; actually we made cinnamon toast with it! Yum!

Cherry Limeade

I love Hubert's Lemonade. My favorite flavor is Limeade. They recently announced (like a few minutes ago! ha!) that they are adding a new flavor to their delicious lines of drinks. The new flavor coming out is Cherry Limeade!! I can’t wait to try it. It should hit the market early summer! I will let you all know how it is once I try it! The "lime" bottle is also my favorite!

On a side note, I will have to do a blog and tell you how I am "recycling" some of my Hubert's Lemonade bottles.

Not gross anymore!!

Remember my son hurt his pinky finger on 5/26/11, and his nail popped out of his nail bed -just the back end, you have to see the picture to understand. (Look at the link below for the story and pictures). Well, this is my son’s finger all healed up. I am very happy with the results. I must say again that the emergency room tech did a fabulous job. The new nail came in almost perfectly. There is one little grove in his nail, which I didn’t even see, my son had to point it out. Don't remember what it looked like or what happened? Not as gross, but still gross!

Well his finger is healing up. His injury happened just over two months ago (5/26/11). I've attached a picture of what it now looks like. The picture was taken two days ago. The new nail is pushing out the old nail. He still likes to gross me out with it but it is healing nicely. The new nail/nailbed is pink and healthy. The old nail is working its way out.

Don't remember what it looked like or what happened? Click here to see: Picture of injury. Looks like what the doctor said was true. The technician did a really good job in the emergency room when he came in with the injury.

Homemade Dog Food

We were watching a Chopped rerun, episode “Crunch Time” where the winner of that battle was Madison Cowan. He has a really cook accent, looked him up on the internet and found he had a webpage. I was curious and was looking around it. In the blog portion of it he was talking about making his pup some food.

We just happened to be low on dog food. I had all the ingredients and decided to give it a try. Here is the recipe.

Pour 2 1/2 cups of oats into 3 1/2 cups of boiling water, stir to thicken and remove from the heat. Sprinkle on 2 tsp of powdered chicken stock, crack in an egg; add 1 chopped apple and a handful of shredded cheese. Stir and allow to cool for 5 minutes. This makes an exceptionally healthy, satisfying and cost effective substitute until his regular kibble comes in.

We made it and our dog loved it. There were some things I will do differently; I will chop the apple up in to much smaller pieces. When it got down to the end my dog would “spit” out some of the apple when the oats were getting low. I think next time I am also going to try it with beef stock. I didn’t have any otherwise I would have done that this time, my dog is sensitive to chicken. Another alternative will be to make this with rice instead of oats.

So, what do you think?

Pucker up...Tart

If you love tart you'll love Hubert's Lemonade- Raspberry Lemonade! It's a flavor explosion in your mouth.

This Hubert's Lemonade flavor is much more sour than the others we've had. Now, I'm not someone that prefers sour or tart so Raspberry Lemonade wasn't my favorite. But here's what is good: Lots and lots of flavor! You can taste the freshness. You can taste the raspberry and lemons. It doesn't taste sugary or artificial. It tastes like tart fruit.

So to recap, I didn't love the Raspberry Lemonade as much as I've love the other flavors. But I'm still a huge Hubert's Lemonade fan! I still haven't tasted all of Hubert's Lemonade’s flavors. But I can't wait to. I'll check in later with a new flavor, and a new review.

Side note, had to run a errand to Best Buys this weekend. As I walked out the store, there was a family of three (Mom, Dad, and son about 10). They were standing outside the store talking. Something caught my eye... the Dad was carrying a bottle; it was a Hubert's Lemonade bottle. It's distinct shape, yes, I knew immediate what it was. The father and son were drinking Hubert's Lemonade. The mom was drinking something else. Just thought it very interesting that I saw them with the smiling lemonade bottle!

It's still gross...

Update on my son’s finger… from when he crushed it.
(Click here to read and see what originally happend.)

He has had two appointments with the specialist. The first one was about 10days after the incident. They took another X-ray, again, everything looked good. The doctor said that the technician in the ER did a really good job at cleaning it out and stitching the nail back in. (

She said ALMOST ALWAYS with the type of injury he had where the nail pops out from the cuticle end there are broken bones. She said he is very lucky!! She again said that the nail will fall out. She also said the new nail might grow back in with some ridges on it.

She wanted to leave the stitches in for another week. He had the second appointment his past Monday where they took out the stitches. The doctor said everything looks good. She said to keep an eye out for infection. The nail/nail-bed area is now getting black. It still looks gross.

I will try and post a picture so you can see the progress.

I like me some Buckwheat Pancakes!!

I like to eat Buckwheat Pancakes. I like them best off the griddles with some butter, no syrup. My favorite ones to make where the Aunt Jemima brand of Buckwheat pancakes. They have sadly discontinued making it. I actually w rote to them a while back inquiring about it and they did say they discontinued them. Bummer! It was something I remember eating as a kid, and enjoying with my Dad. I’ve tried other mixes but have not enjoyed them.

I did find online a recipe given out by someone at Aunt Jemima. I have tried it and must say it is pretty darn close to the original. It calls for dark buckwheat flour but I could not find it, so I got the regular kind. So, go ahead, get out the mixing bowl, turn on the griddle and enjoy some Buckwheat Pancakes!! Let me know what you think of them!! I thought… YUM!

Make buckwheat pancakes by using Aunt Jemima Original pancake mix and buckwheat flour. The recipe is listed below for you:

Ingredients:
3/4 cup (175 ml) Aunt Jemima Original pancake mix
1/3 cup (75 ml) buckwheat flour (purchase dark flour)
1/2 tsp (2 ml) baking powder
Directions:
Stir dry ingredients together and add milk and egg as per package instructions.

No, the otter one...

Who will win??

This video of a boy racing an otter is so cute!

It tastes like America

Review for Hubert's Lemonade
Original Lemonade Flavor
by My Husband

Hubert's Lemonade Original is a hit! Close your eyes, take a sip and be transported back to the corner lemonade stand when you were a kid. Well, maybe if lived in Mayberry. I grew up in Los Angeles, but this is what I imagine the neighborhood lemonade stand's cool refreshing drink would have tasted like. To put it plainly, Hubert's Lemonade tastes like... America.

Hubert's Lemonade is unlike any other "mass produced" lemonade I've tasted. It is tart and lacks the sugary sweetness that every other drink maker relies on to peddle their goods. The freshness is unequalled and if I didn't pour it from the bottle myself I would have sworn that my wife spend the morning squeezing countless lemons just for me.

As a matter of fact, this is an easy way for a wife or husband to impress their spouse. Come to think of it, this could be a commercial for Hubert's Lemonade. Picture the husband out mowing the lawn in the scorching summer heat while the wife relaxes on the couch. As the husband puts away the lawn mower the wife jumps up and takes out several bottles of Hubert's Lemonade and pours them into a glass picture filled with ice and lemon slices. The husband walks in drenched in sweat as the wife pours him a tall glass of refreshing lemonade. The husband smiles in approval, takes a drink and says, "I'm a lucky man." The wife smiles proudly and says to herself, "thanks Hubert's Lemonade."

Hubert's Lemonade... Duh, Winning!

Now, that is just gross!

What a bloody mess!!! So, my son was riding his bike yesterday when the chain broke. It flipped him over the handle-bars. He was pretty scraped up (all over) but he must have landed on his hand because his pinky finger was smashed. He called me and was talking a mile a minute. All I heard was bike, crash and hospital. The neighbor took him in and washed him up. I quickly made my way to him. I took him to the emergency room. We got in pretty quick. They got really busy after we were already in. They took an X-ray. Results were in, no breaks or fractures! Thank goodness!! His finger is swollen and the fingernail was bent back and out of it's base. The part of the nail that goes under the cuticle was popping out. So gross! I've never seen a nail do that. It's hard to figure out how that even popped out. The doctor said they are going to have to numb his finger, irrigate it, and then pull the nail off. They did that, and then they cleaned his finger, the nail-bed and the nail. And then they put the nail back in...and then... STITCHED it back into place. They said that he will lose the nail but this will help to save his nail-bed, cuticle area and guide the new nail into place. His finger is wrapped and in a splint.

Today I've been on the phone with insurance, and primary doctor to make an appointment with a hand specialist. So, we are playing phone tag. Watching them fix him up was gross, I had to look away, especially when they were pulling the nail off. Ewww!

I know you all are not getting the whole effect, so that is why I am including the pictures!!! Hahahaha!! Enjoy! ;)Bloody Mess, injury about an hour after it happened.

See how the base of the nail that was supposed to be under his cuticle/skin area popped out.

Here is his finger nail removed and "cleaned" up, with neosporin, they tucked the length of the nail back under the cuticle. There are three stitches in there to hold his nail in place, one on each side and one at the top. His poor little finger is sprained and swollen too.

Your next Country Star is...

I mean, your next American Idol is....So, last night was the final performance on American Idol. The two battling it out for the title are Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. It is the youngest final two the show has ever had. There was some drama yesterday on whether of not Lauren was going to be able to perform. It seems that Lauren was having trouble with her voice. She couldn't even finish her final practice session. Word is that Haley Reinhart was going to be brought back in the competition, if Lauren was unable to perform. But, the doctor did his stuff, and she was able to sing.
Who are you voting for, who is the NEXT American Idol?!
